Ahoy All

Years ago I saw a really great film called Lilja 4-Ever and for the first and only time in my life posted a brief review:

Along with City of God and Man Without A Past this shows that World Cinema is playing a VITAL role in what we can see and say about the world when our News service and governments are letting us down. This IS a life changing film. I LOVE the way this flits between first person and observational story telling (check out the Sex Pistols' "Holidays in the Sun" song for how this can work brilliantly). I love the way the film goes from quiet to LOUD ... that is life, and Grunge/Hip Hop use this all the time. It is now, it screams out how modern life makes you feel - from alone to defened with others presence. See this, cry for what we allow to happen in this world, and marvel at some amazing acting and cutting edge film making. To everyone involved, "thank you". Now, that is a shite review in terms of words, but the film had a big effect on me.  I wrote some stuff when I was younger about how societies treats children and some of it got used by Feed The Children, which I am a bit proud of.

I do think that music SHOULD engage with society, and again I guess that is one of the great things about the punk/post-punk era in that it did.  It shouldn't just be about that, it should be personal and a laugh, but it should connect too.  Skids did that in some ways. Richard, great to see you doing that still.  Have always been a MASSIVE fan of Emma as well, probably one of the few actors I would actually like to meet (hint hint).
