Dan Arborise some info.........
The next performer to appear in the Long Gallery in Abbot House on Thursday 22nd April is much travelled acoustic guitar player Dan Arborise. Born amongst the jungles of Borneo to Polish parents, Dan moved to London by way of Nigeria, and trained in classical guitar and piano. After sampling life on the road in pop/punk band ‘Playground’, he then gravitated towards the acoustic guitar, being described as “John Martyn meets Nick Drake for the 21st century” and was the official support for the late John Martyn’s ‘Solid Air’ at Celtic Connections
Signed exclusively to London label, Just Music, Dan's first album 'Around in Circles' was released in 2006 to rave reviews, having been produced by the "blissfully ambient" (Independent) Jon Hopkins and mastered by Simon Heyworth, who remastered all of Nick Drake's seminal recordings. It reached No 16 in reveal Records Top Albums of 2006.
A nationwide tour followed, making a real impact in folk clubs, acoustic music venues, festivals and arts centres throughout the UK, including supporting Thea Gilmore on her national tour, going down a storm at Ullapool Guitar Festival and three sell-out nights at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Dan's tender and haunting voice is the perfect match for his evocative and rhythmic guitar-picking. During his appearance in the atmospheric Long Gallery in Abbot House expect unusual open tunings, songs that develop into instrumentals, and instrumentals that grow into songs, and a beautiful acoustic guitar sound that is frequently transformed but never compromised by some amazing electronic guitar effects. "Through a quartet of fragile and haunting songs he captured and captivated an audience who had come to hear him….. A seriously talented musician." (Maverick)
Tickets priced £10 are available from Abbot House on 733266 and Third Base Records on 722554.
